Grizzly

As I hid behind a large birch tree, my heart thumping against my chest, I was praying to god that the 350 pound killing machine wouldn't find me balled up in the dead leaves. As the gigantic grizzly sniffed and stepped on the fallen autumn leaves searching for me, I sat, thinking of the group I was separated from; Josh, Peter, Nick and Nate. Had they gone for help, were they hiding like me or maybe they were killed by the grizzly, there was no way I could know for sure. I was feeling so stupid for leaving my 50. Cal rifle in the back of my truck back at camp.

It was October and a cool, breezy day as we drove up to the site from Grande Prairie. When we arrived, we set up the R.V and got ready. It was supposed to be a hunting trip for us five collage students but within the first half hour (at lunch time) we were eating when we saw a brown figure come out from the bushes, we all ran and ran until we couldn't find each other through the thick forest.

The crunches of the leaves grew louder and louder until I felt the warm breath on my neck. I turned my head, and saw the huge bear looking eye-to-eye with me. I jolted up and ran past the trees toward the camp that we all sprinted from when we saw the grizzly emerge from the bushes. I was running out of breath when I saw the tents, the trucks and the R.V.

Once I reached the camp I ran for the motor home. I went up the ladder and got on my stomach. I was safe. It was my R.V and my truck that was hooked up to it. I had to get in my truck to get the gun and kill the grizzly. My brain started working as I thought of how to get my gun. I figured it out, I had to jump in the box and get to the cab. But how could I distract the bear?

Then, out the corner of my eye I saw a red figure in the distance. It was Josh. He was carrying a rifle too.

" Load your rifle!" I screamed as I hid from the bear at the door of my camper.

Josh's hands franticly started loading the rifle as he became closer and closer in my view. I watched as he cocked the bolt back and pushed it forward. He was kneeling and had the butt of the gun against his shoulder.

"Bang!" The ear shattering blast of the rifle pierced my ears. The blast was quickly followed by a loud clang. Josh missed. He looked down at his rifle to cock it again but, the bear was already speeding toward him. He didn't have time to aim down the sights before the giant killer tackled him. He yelled as the grizzly bit his neck and jerked away the flesh. When I saw the sickening scene I was already at the cab door, reaching in for my 50 cal.

I turned around, started walking forward, put the butt of the gun on my shoulder and squeezed the trigger.

"Click."

"Sh**." The bear turned its head and sneered. Before I even realized that I've been screwed by myself the bear was charging. It took me about a half a second to get back to the truck, but I was still to late. The beast swatted me down and stood over me. That was the moment I knew I was going to die. I looked at the bear as he lunged. The next thing I saw was the bears head explode by the blast of a shotgun. I looked to see a police man in a uniform holding a Remington. Behind him, Nick, Nate and Peter stood.
